Luigi Wewege is President of Caye International Bank, awarded as one of the leading banks in the Caribbean and Central America. Luigi serves on multiple international advisory boards covering diverse industries such as asset protection, blockchain, precious metals, and wealth management 

Wewege is a regular speaker, thought leader, and an accomplished author in banking and financial services with several publications including The Digital Banking Revolution (now in its third edition), and “Disruptions and Digital Banking Trends” published in The Journal of Applied Finance & Banking. Luigi also shares his expertise as an Instructor for the FinTech School based in California and through his website luigiwewege.com.

Caye International Bank – Structure, Stability and Security

Under Wewege’s leadership, Caye has grown from the fifth to the largest international bank in Belize. This growth is attributed largely to his dedicated focus on providing bespoke financial solutions to private and corporate clients worldwide.

Luigi gained extensive expertise in global markets and investments over his 15 years of diverse international experience in the financial services sector. His prior roles include Chief Executive Officer of Vivier, a boutique finance firm; Commercial Manager of the Investment Research Group; and Senior Consultant at The Braintrust Network, a bespoke management consultancy.

Luigi has been recognized for his career efforts with several awards, including the Private Banker of the Year Award in 2021 for CARICOM and LATAM respectively by International Investor and Pan Finance magazines. Wewege was also recognized by his alma mater The University of Missouri-St. Louis with the Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2019 and the UMSL Salute to Business Achievement Award for Outstanding Business Alumni in 2017.

Wewege earned an MBA in International Business from the MIB Trieste School of Management in Italy and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business with honors from the University of Missouri-St. Louis where he triple-majored in Finance, International Business, and Management. 

While finishing his undergraduate studies, he completed a pilot study for the Federal Trade Commission examining the accuracy of American credit bureau data. The research culminated in a report that was presented to the United States Congress in late 2009, under Section 319 of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Luigi established his own foundation that provides an annual university scholarship. He is also past President of Junior Chamber International – Metro. Notably, Wewege has competed in a variety of competitive sports, most notably being a National Junior Champion in swimming and receiving a Men’s NCAA Scholarship for golf.

Wewege is married to Idaliz, a Partner in a law firm headquartered in Panama, with one son, Liam, and a long-haired Chihuahua named Arnie.
